Each example starts with a net estate after appropriate funeral expenses, debts and a valid Wasiyyah have already been handled. Special facts and madhhab differences can change a real result.

Net estate: $240,000

  • Wife: 1/8 = $30,000
  • Son: 7/12 = $140,000
  • Daughter: 7/24 = $70,000

The wife takes her fixed share; the children divide the residue two to one.

Net estate: $240,000

  • Husband: 1/4 = $60,000
  • Son: 1/2 = $120,000
  • Daughter: 1/4 = $60,000

The husband receives one quarter because a descendant exists.

  • Husband: 1/2 = $60,000
  • Mother: 1/3 of the residue = $20,000
  • Father: residue = $40,000

In this Umariyyatayn case, the mother takes one third of what remains after the spouse.

The father combines his fixed share with the remaining residue.
